Bad Breath - Halitosis

Halitosis it’s a condition associated with an unpleasant odour that provides from the oral cavity.

The halitosis it’s associated with poor hygiene that is acquired by not brushing your teeth properly, by not flossing and by not brushing your tongue. These causes are aggravated in people who have braces (because maintain the adequate mouth hygiene is harder), in people that sleep with their mouth open (because it dries the mouth, and if there isn’t saliva, there’s not any oxygen to kill bacteria), in people that don’t drink enough water, smoking people…

The bacterial grown is visible when the tongue coating meets. The coating is a white mass composed by dead cells on the surface of the tongue with bacteria and food debris. This is the largest cause of halitosis and it is avoidable, as already mentioned, by adopting a proper hygiene.

Tumor masses and pharyngitis are also causes for halitosis.

How to avoid halitosis?

- Going to dentist often
- Proper mouth hygiene
- Treatment of obstructer nose to avoid mouth breathing at night
- Drink water
-  Chewing gum with no sugar, that improve the breath and increases the saliva production
- Avoid going without food for a long period of time
- Avoid smoking
